Why is my hair always breaking? What can I do about it?

Why is my hair always breaking? What can I do about it?

The number one problem facing women with textured hair who are trying to achieve a stronger, healthier hair is chronic hair breakage. A lot of the time the breakage happens subtly and slow over many months and even years that many women don’t even take notice until their hair begins to fallout in bigger and bigger chunks. Hair breakage simply put, is the result of your hair chemistry been totally thrown off balance. That is to say an imbalance between protein and moisture content within your hair fibre which, then leads to dryness and eventually breakage.

There are three levels of hair breakage:

  • Level 1 (mild breakage) – at this level, hair breakage is minimal and usually happens when hair is treated or handled roughly such as while combing.
  • Level 2 (moderate breakage) - at this level, hair breakage is moderate and usually occurs with everyday hair maintenance routines or manipulation and styling techniques.
  • Level 3 (severe breakage) – at this level, hair breakage is severe and occurs with very minimal and gentle hair manipulation and styling techniques.

For most women with textured hair, the problem of hair breakage is due largely to the products (such as reconstructive treatments or oil-rich lubricating creams and conditioners) that are marketed and sold to us. These products are intensely protein-rich, none of which positively helps to strengthen your hair’s moisture or hydration profile. This is why we’ve designed the Au Naturél 5-in-1 haircare treatment system to help women just like you attain the perfect moisture/protein balance for a healthy head of hair. See the full range here.
